Greetings from Iceland!

We made it to Iceland today, and will post lots of exciting details shortly. We have been diverted to Reykjavik and are staying there for the solstice. We had intended to go to Isafjordur but the authorities got different ideas in mind for customs clearance and directed us to go to Reykjavik. Having experienced this process before, last year on a westbound trip, discretion was the better part of valor.
On the way we saw seals from the air, large fog banks shrouding large icebergs, and fantastic fjords that only pictures can describe. We also saw much melting of the ice climbing east out of Narsarsuaq, a sign of the times as the glaciers continue to retreat.

Brian,
I would have thought you would go pretty much direct from Nasarauq to Iceland. Did you go up the coast of Greenland to minimize the overwater part, or for the sightseeing??

Very enjoyable travel log. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Alice and I are particularly interested in your experiences at Kulusuk as we found that stop quite intersting. Will you be routing by Kangerlussuaq or Ilulissat on the return?

Recommend seeing the museum at the Pearl In Reykjavik. Best museum we saw.

Hi Larry, we were keen on the low-level sightseeing up the east coast of Greenland. Iceland Control put the damper on that when they rerouted us to Reykjavik. Our plan to land at Isafjordur was foiled, as was the close view of Kulusuk and the sights of the central coast. We had headwinds anyway, so we just had to head out to sea!

To nelsonfamily, we just flew over Kulusuk this time, but I had a couple days there some years ago and we got a boat trip to the edge of the glacier. Going west, we will pick either Kangerlussuaq or Ilulissat based on the weather further west. If we get the chance I'd like to fly over Baffin Island again, but a stationary front may block our visibility tomorrow.
